Montro is a marketplace in the pre-owned watch industry, backed by brand-authorized retailers and pre-owned specialists. For a worry- and hassle-free high-end watch buying experience.
I've been with Montro since its beginning, back when it was just a static webpage without any watches for sale. I was part of the transformation of the website into a fully-fledged marketplace, including search optimization, filter implementation, icon creation, enhancing its trustworthiness, and a few static informational pages of the consumer website.
In addition to the consumer website, I was responsible for the internal taxonomy pages where the team can input all the watch information that is used and shown on the consumer website.
The Moonshot
We called it the moonshot; our transformation and rebranding project. The goal was to create a marketplace that doesn't feel outdated, that is accessible to all, and matches the quality of the watches Montro sells. It was a project without constraints, often the most challenging kind, but we are extremely proud and satisfied with the outcome.
The goal is to make the experience of finding and buying your next watch as enjoyable as wearing it. Avoiding the clichés of watch industry photography, creating relatable real-world images in a reportage style, free from the excess and stuffiness usually associated with luxury products. The grid layout which makes it easy to swap designs in and out when needed. But also a design that is very accessible for both desktop and mobile.
Browse indefinitely
Compelled to dig deeper, learn more and seek out new experiences, forever curious captures the spirit of the Montro brand. It embodies our explorer personality, hints at the timeless appeal of watchmaking and sets Montro apart as an adventurous brand in a traditionally conservative industry.
Montro brings the joy of discovery to the world of online watch shopping.
But keeping it approachable. Montro is not just for the watch geeks that are on the lookout of a specific watch. It's for everyone. For those who may not have heard of brands like Omega or Cartier yet, for those who want to explore and refine their preferences, and even for the button bashers!
Therefore, I designed a way to browse indefinitely. The exploration begins on the homepage with the most populair brand or models cards. Alternatively, the user can start browsing by selecting a particular material or style.
Search suggestions
After clicking on any of these filters, users can delve deeper into their exploration. On the search results page, suggestions at the top help to further narrow down the options. And of course only suggestion cards that match the current filters are displayed.

using the suggestion cards.I created suggestion cards for brand, model, material, size, movement type, complication type, and strap type. This allows Montro to provide suggestions to the explorer, even at multiple levels deep.
Filter cards
Together with these suggestions, the filter cards can assist users in narrowing down their search even more. A carefully designed algorithm presents various filter cards to the user during their scrolling.
Content cards
Finally, we have the content cards. These cards appear among the search results to inform, excite, and facilitate discovery. Each card is displayed only when specific filters are activated. Clicking on a card triggers different filters, helping the user further narrow down their options.
In addition to help users in discovering, content cards can also be utilized for marketing campaigns. Consider the hype and trend surrounding the release of the James Bond Spectre movie.
Trustworthiness
Purchasing a luxury watch is a special event, and so Montro aims for transparency and clarity. We ensure that the watch you are purchasing comes from accredited and respected professionals. No fakes. No shady dealers. No worries. To emphasize this, we often display a "Montro Guaranteed" banner.
Additionally, each seller has a dedicated page displaying their story and details, as well as all their watches for sale.
All illustrations are “hand-drawn” to enhance the quality and trustworthiness of the platform.
Other features
FOMO
Purchasing a pre-owned luxury watch differs from regular shopping of course. However, creating a sense of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) can encourage people to proceed with their purchase, as each watch is unique.
Collections
Create a list of watches you own, save the ones you're interested in, get notified about new arrivals, save your searches, and track their price fluctuations over time, all within “Collections”.
Need some time to think it over? Save it to your collection for quick and easy access. This popup appears when a user clicks on "Buy now" and then navigates back from the Checkout to the watch page.
